The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) welcomed students from the Arkansas School for Math, Science, and the Arts (ASMSA) and The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS), February 6-7, for the 33rd Annual SLAMT competition.
SLAMT brings together LSMSA and its sister schools each year for a weekend of friendly games, camaraderie, and school spirit. This year's tournament made history with a record-breaking nine events, including highly competitive signature events like volleyball, basketball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, tennis, and table tennis, along with the exciting addition of esports matches for Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart. Pickleball was also featured this year as a trial sport.

LSMSA placed first overall with 21 points, followed by ASMSA with 17 points, then MSMS with 16 points. Throughout the weekend, student-athletes from all schools demonstrated dedication and competitive spirit. LSMSA captured first-place finishes in volleyball, girls' basketball, table tennis, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and pickleball. ASMSA claimed victory in the boys' basketball and ultimate frisbee events, while MSMS showed strong performances, earning first-place finishes in soccer and tennis.

"The spirit and energy of SLAMT are hard to explain; you have to experience it to truly understand what it means to the students of these schools," said Dale Clingerman, Coordinator of Athletics and Recreation at LSMSA. "This is a unique opportunity for our students to compete against others in similar learning and living situations. We are incredibly grateful to ASMSA and MSMS for making the trip to Natchitoches and representing their schools with such enthusiasm and excellence. With nine events this year, participants had greater opportunities to compete, connect with their peers, and showcase their school spirit. The sportsmanship and energy from everyone made this one of the best SLAMTs in our 33-year history."

The weekend concluded with special recognitions for outstanding contributions to the event. LSMSA’s Spirit of SLAMT Awards went to Coach Kay Creel for her exceptional leadership and dedication shown leading up to and during the competition and the LSMSA Pomline for their enthusiastic support and high-energy performances throughout the weekend. ASMSA and MSMS also received SLAMT Spirit Awards.

The success of SLAMT 2026 was made possible through the hard work of numerous student, faculty, and staff volunteers. Much of SLAMT was available live online thanks to the LSMSA Film Club, which provided streaming coverage of events, allowing parents, friends, and alumni to enjoy the competition from afar.

LSMSA looks forward to continuing this proud tradition and wishes to thank all participating schools and student-athletes for making SLAMT 2026 an unforgettable experience.

LSMSA is a tuition-free, public residential high school serving high-achieving sophomores, juniors, and seniors from across Louisiana. Financial assistance is available to ensure access to its 42-year tradition of a rigorous, college-level living and learning experience.
