Two seniors take top honors in Rotary Club essay competition

Two seniors from LSMSA claimed the top two spots in the Natchitoches Rotary Club’s annual essay competition. Sofia Rivera of Covington placed first, and Allie Schleter of Lake Charles placed second. Both were recognized with scholarships at the organization’s regular meeting held Tuesday, May 8, on the Downtown Riverfront. Rivera will complete a one-year exchange in Romania through the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program and then enroll at Columbia University in the fall of 2019 with a major in biology and Middle Eastern studies. Schleter will attend Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge this fall with a major in agribusiness. Also attending the meeting was Leah Lentz, co-director of the College Counseling Center.
