Jojo Deep claims top spot in open session
A group of 10 students from LSMSA traveled to Baton Rouge on Saturday, March 17, to participate in the 17th annual high school math contest sponsored by the Department of Mathematics at Louisiana State University. Jojo Deep, a junior from Natchitoches, was the overall winner in the open session and received a $500 scholarship to LSU. The LSMSA team placed first and each individual received a medal. The school won $100. Team members were Deep; Jordan Byrd, a junior from Denham Springs; Han Gong, a senior from Metairie; Kevin Pan, a senior from Lafayette; John Luke Heying, a sophomore from Bossier City; Vrat Joshi, a junior from Natchitoches; Jason Min, a sophomore from West Monroe; Karan Baker, a sophomore from New Iberia; Albert Chen, a senior from Natchitoches; and Ben Walker, a junior from Mandeville. The competition is a chance for students to test their mathematical mettle in individual competition, for students to engage in team competition and for teachers to meet and mingle with colleagues and LSU faculty.
