Twelve compete at state Beta convention

Three students qualify for national convention
Twelve students from LSMSA participated in the state Beta Convention held Feb. 7-9 at the Baton Rouge River Center and three qualified to attend the national convention to be held this summer.

Students competing included Sadie Brannan, a senior from Bossier City, Poetry Division II; Ishika Patel, a junior from Many, Math Division II; Katie McElveen, a junior from DeRidder, Language Arts Division II; Juliet Flanagan, a junior from Pearl River, Creative Writing Division II; Kiran Kaur, a junior from Lake Charles, Agriculture Division II; John Luke Heying, a sophomore from Bossier City, Math Division I; Gabrielle Blanchard, a senior from Houma, Recyclable Art; Clair Miller, a senior from Keatchie, Onsite Colored Pencil Drawing; Sarah Green, a senior from Houma, Speech Division II; Olivia Gotte, a senior from Iota, Science Division II; Emma Shupe, a senior from Baton Rouge, Spanish Division II; and Kathy Barrios, a senior from Houma, Individual Talent.

Brannan, Kaur and Shupe each placed third in their respective categories and earned an opportunity to compete at the national level. The national senior convention will be held June 17-20 at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center in Savannah, Georgia.

The mission statement of the Beta Club is to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students.

Requirements for being a member of Beta Club at LSMSA are to maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average and not miss more than two meetings.
