Forty-four to serve as ambassadors

Ambassadors to share love of school with prospective students
A love for LSMSA and sharing it with prospective students is what led several current students to serve as an ambassador for the 2017-18 school year.

“I chose to be an ambassador because when I was new, the ambassadors made me fill like a part of this community from the instant I stepped on campus,” said Presley Simmons, a senior from Walker. “I want to help everyone feel the same way.”

Her favorite part of being an ambassador and a student at LSMSA is the people with which she gets to share this “amazing experience.”

“As great as the curriculum is, it is your friends and professors that will keep you motivated throughout your time here,” she added.

Simmons wants people to know that no matter who they are, everyone has a place at LSMSA. The community is welcoming and friendly and anyone would have a hard time feeling isolated or lonely at LSMSA.

William Heitman, a junior from Baton Rouge, similarly stated that his interest in the school grew in part because of the excitement and dedication for the school that the ambassadors showed him.

“I wanted to show that same energy to future LSMSA students,” he said.

An ambassador assists with new student orientation, makes connections with new students, assists with preparations for move-in day, assists with tours and talks with prospective students on exploration days, makes phone calls to prospective students and assists with spring testing day.

When choosing ambassadors, the selection committee considers a student’s contributions to the LSMSA community, leadership ability and potential, individual and group interview, faculty, residential life, work service and peer recommendations, academic performance and disciplinary standing.

Once chosen to serve as an ambassador, students are expected to remain in good academic standing, maintain an exemplary disciplinary record and positive reputation in the residential life program and attend trainings and meetings and assist with initiatives.
