LSMSA’s Dr. Robert Dalling receives 2025 Yale Educator Award
Dr. Robert Dalling, Senior Lecturer of Physics at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts, has been named a recipient of the 2025 Yale Educator Award.
He was nominated by Peter Yu, a member of the LSMSA Class of 2025 who is now pursuing studies in computer science and economics at Yale University.
“Dr. Dalling is more than a teacher—he’s a mentor who makes every student feel seen and supported,” Yu shared. “He has shaped the way I think about both science and life.”
The Yale Educator Recognition Program honors outstanding high school teachers and counselors from around the world who have supported and inspired their students to excel. Matriculating students nominate educators who made a lasting impact on their academic journey, and a committee of Yale admissions officers reviews the nominations.
This year, 302 educators from 38 states and 22 countries were nominated, and just 87 recipients—61 teachers and 26 counselors—were selected.
Dr. Dalling was recognized not only for his professional accomplishments—including holding patents, publishing multiple books, and conducting research in leading facilities across the country—but also for his deep commitment to teaching and mentoring students at LSMSA.
Yu described Dr. Dalling as a teacher whose influence extends far beyond the classroom. Known for his calm teaching style, Dalling even authored the 500-page physics textbook his students use. But just as important, he is remembered for the daily encouragements, the snacks he shares, and the welcoming environment he creates.
Yu said that what truly sets Dr. Dalling apart is the way he gives his all for his students, inspiring hundreds while creating a sense of community. “Above all,” Yu reflected, “Dr. Dalling cares for his students.”
The Yale Admissions Office credited this year’s honorees for shaping students long before they reach Yale, noting that the excellence of the university’s student body is a direct result of the dedication of educators like Dr. Dalling.
