We'd like to recognize Kyle McCleary for spending his summer volunteering.
Kyle McCleary, a senior at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA), has spent his past four summers volunteering at a small Methodist summer camp in Greenwell Springs, LA.
“The camp gives us a unique opportunity to be a beacon of positivity and hope for these kids, some of whom have terrible home lives,” said McCleary, who was positively impacted by people he met at the camp.
McCleary’s commitment to community service illustrates the power of volunteerism and how small acts of kindness can have huge effects on others. LSMSA nurtures an environment of family and community service, with students regularly volunteering in soup kitchens, highway cleanups and summer camps. During the school year, LSMSA students log more than 200 hours of community service annually.
Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) is the preeminent state-supported residential high school with competitive admissions for Louisiana's high-achieving, highly-motivated sophomores, juniors, and seniors. As a public school, there is no tuition to attend, and assistance from the LSMSA Foundation ensures the program is available to all qualifying students regardless of family financial need.
