College Counseling Center hosts college fair

Juniors and sophomores visit with admissions counselors
Admissions counselors from 25 colleges and universities participated in the North Louisiana Collaborative College Fair sponsored by the College Counseling Center at LSMSA and held on Saturday, April 21.

“The college fair offers college-bound families the rare opportunity to visit many select colleges in one afternoon,” said Laurie Richard, co-director of the CCC. “It offers valuable time with representatives to explore college choices and network. Prospective colleges answered specific questions, got to know the students and provided information about their programs.”

A selective admissions panel offered college-bound families a firsthand understanding of how college admissions officers determine who they admit. College representatives were available to review sample applications and discuss the pros and cons of the applications process so that students could better present themselves in their own college applications.

“My favorite thing about college fair was listening to the selective admissions panel and hearing them answer questions that we had submitted to them,” said Zachary Schleter, a junior from Lake Charles. “It was really helpful in providing us with tips for our college applications.

“I learned so much about college and specifically the application process from it.”

The participating colleges were Barnard College, Baylor University, Bowdoin College, Centenary College, East Texas Baptist University, Fisk University, Hendrix College, Louisiana College, Louisiana Scholars’ College, Louisiana State University, Louisiana Tech University, Northwestern State University, Ogden Honors College at LSU, Oglethorpe University, Queens University, Rhodes College, Syracuse, Texas A&M University, University of Alabama at Huntsville, University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, University of Chicago, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of Louisiana at Monroe, University of New Orleans and the United States Air Force Academy.
