Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts Tops National, State Rankings in 2025 Niche.com Schools Report


LSMSA ranks among the top public high schools in the U.S. and Louisiana according to a new report issued in September 2024.

Niche.com has released its annual updated school rankings for 2025. The Pittsburgh, Pa.-based company evaluates schools by combining input from current students, alumni, and parents with hard data from the U.S. Dept. of Education. It was announced in September that Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) in Natchitoches received an overall grade of A+ from Niche.com for 2025. LSMSA also earned the following noteworthy rankings:

-Ranked #1 of 324, Best Public High School Teachers in Louisiana
-Ranked #2 of 123, Best High Schools for STEM in Louisiana
-Ranked #3 of 339, Best Public High Schools in Louisiana
-Ranked #4 of 19,432, Best Public High School Teachers in America

LSMSA’s rankings in the categories of Best Public High School Teachers in Louisiana, Best High Schools for STEM in Louisiana, and Best Public High Schools in Louisiana are unchanged from September 2023. In the category of Best Public High School Teachers in America, LSMSA advanced by one position to become one of the top four public high schools in the entire country. “From the faculty and staff to the residential life team, the administration, and especially the students, we’re a small, hard-working community that’s capable of doing big things,” said Emily Shumate, Director of Enrollment Management and Outreach at LSMSA. “Our students know that they’ll be challenged, but also that they’ll be supported throughout the process."   

Through articulation agreements with 14 in-state universities, students at LSMSA have opportunities to earn more than 70 general education credit hours during their time at the school. Northwestern State University of Louisiana (NSU) offers LSMSA students options for dual enrollment credit, and both NSU and the University of Louisiana at Monroe offer LSMSA students the opportunity to earn an Associate of General Studies degree using LSMSA coursework.

Niche.com’s annual K-12 rankings are based on a rigorous analysis of dozens of statistical factors and millions of reviews from students and parents. Along with the annual rankings, Niche.com also releases report cards, assigning letter grades to more than 100,000 K-12 schools and districts across America on topics like academics, college readiness, and teachers. LSMSA is a tuition-free, public high school for high-achieving sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a nominal room and board fee to cover housing, meals, and campus activities. The LSMSA Foundation offers assistance for families in need to ensure no eligible student is denied the school’s 42-year legacy of a college-level living/learning experience.
