Parents Andy and Christine Ferrell join 1983 Society to help students like theirs
As parents of LSMSA alumnus Edouard (‘18) and junior Julia (‘22), LSMSA was top of mind when Andy and Christine Ferrell discussed charitable contribution options.
“Louisiana School offers such a wide array of learning possibilities for high school students,” said Christine. “I can’t imagine Edouard’s artistic abilities being that well-developed so early on anywhere else.”
Christine recalls Edouard’s amazement when his classes and workload as a freshman at ULL were easier to manage than he expected.
“We know that Louisiana School is hard work, but we also saw how much it pays off,” Christine said. “All of Edouard’s stress about writing hard papers in high school was worth it once he was in college.”
Today, Edouard is a Dean’s Scholar junior in the University of Louisiana in Lafayette (ULL)’s BFA Performing Arts Theatre Design and Technology Program. Andy and Christine credit the help of LSMSA career counselor Leah Lentz for the all-expense-paid Jeffrey Caffery scholarship Edouard received to ULL. Julia currently represents LSMSA as FBLA District III Vice President, has participated in LSMSA’s Dance Ensemble, and dreams of a career in medicine. After their oldest daughter attended her home school at Natchitoches Central, she graduated from ULL summa cum laude with her Bachelor of Interior Design as a College of the Arts Dean’s Scholar, Faculty Design Award recipient, and President of the ULL Student Chapter of International Interior Design Association.
“Our family is certainly proof that every school is not for every kid,” said Christine and Andy. “We’re thrilled about what Louisiana School offers and have benefited from the many ways contributions to the Foundation support all LSMSA students. That’s why we wanted to give back,” said Christine, who currently serves as Vice President of the LSMSA Parents’ Council.
It was during a Parents’ Council event that Christine first became aware of the 1983 Society, supporters recognized by the Foundation for helping the school foster a tradition of philanthropy with annual contributions of $1,983 or more.
