Dr. Emily Brumfield ('03)

Dr. Emily Brumfield (She, Her, Hers) is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and an alumna of LSMSA.
She is originally from Mandeville, LA. After high school she also worked with LSMSA Summer School and served as Assistant Coordinator of the EXCEL program for several summers. After completion of her residency training, she joined the faculty of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN, where she helped develop a community-wide response to better care for victims of strangulation. She returned home last year to join the faculty at Ochsner Health in New Orleans. Her passions include reproductive justice, social determinants of health, and improving care for victims of intimate partner violence and sexual assault. She is also passionate about rectifying ways in which the medical field provides inequitable care to traditionally underserved populations.  She hopes to use this experience to further the aims of the IDEA Advisory Council such that LSMSA can better fulfill its promise to the diverse students of Louisiana.
