At Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts—a tuition-free, public high school for high-achieving sophomores, juniors, and seniors—the final weeks of each school year are highlighted by a cavalcade of performances, concerts, and exhibitions presented by the school’s Creative and Performing Arts Department. These events are free and open to the public. Most events are held in LSMSA’s Center for Performance & Technology (or “CPT”) Recital Hall, while others are held in the CPT Blackbox or David C. Treen Auditorium. LSMSA is located at 715 University Pkwy. on the campus of Northwestern State University of Louisiana.
A map of the LSMSA campus with driving directions is available at LSMSA.edu.

LSMSA Chorale & Mixed Ensemble Showcase will be presented at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 4 and at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 5.
Madison Pool (’25), of Walker, will present a Senior Tuba Recital at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 10. Each of these events will be held in the CPT Recital Hall.
“It’s a super-exciting time of year, and I’m very excited to share my recital and to watch those of my peers,” Anello said. “The coolest thing is seeing how every performer makes each piece their own.”
LSMSA Dance Ensemble’s Spring Concert will be held, Apr. 30-May 2, at 7 p.m. in David C. Treen Auditorium. For the first time, the concert will be divided into two halves. The first half will feature a performance of the LSMSA Dance Ensemble choreographed by Crystal Lewis, Associate Lecturer and Director of Dance. The second half of the performance, which will follow a 10-minute intermission, will spotlight original student choreography from dance students enrolled in LSMSA’s “Artist-in-Training” program, or “AiT.” AiT students who will present original choreography are Emily Ayton (’25), of Destrehan, Rylie Renee Eirls (’25), of Pineville, and Tori Bourque (’25), of Gonzalez. David C. Treen Auditorium is located on the first floor of the High School Building. Guests are encouraged to enter through the front entrance of the building, which faces University Parkway.
Lewis, who served as a mentor for dance students as they prepared to stage their AiT performances, is excited to see students tackle the various aspects of presenting a dance concert.
“Students are required to stage their own small-scale show, where they play the role of choreographer and dancer while overseeing the production,” Lewis said. “This includes conducting rehearsals, curating costumes, creating concert programs and publicity information, as well as working alongside technical theatre students in the production of their concert.”
LSMSA’s Chorale & Mixed Ensemble will host its Spring Concert at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 4 and at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 5. Both performances will take place in the CPT Recital Hall.
Students enrolled in theatre performance classes at LSMSA will perform during the Theatre Performance Finals and Musical Cabaret at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6 in the CPT Blackbox.
Visual arts classes at LSMSA also culminate in a year-end showcase of student talent. The public is invited to attend the annual Visual Arts Student Show and Reception, a multimedia art show planned for 4:30-6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7 in LSMSA’s Sharon Turcan Gahagan Art Gallery. The Student Show and Reception will be followed by the annual Arts Awards, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the CPT Recital Hall.
