Resources for Future Students

Students must have residential ties to Louisiana to be eligible to attend LSMSA.

If you are moving to Louisiana, you are eligible to apply if you will be residing in-state at the start of the school year.

You don't have to take it through the school! You can take the ACT or SAT as an independent student.  Families will need to visit the ACT website (act.org) or SAT website (sat.org) to register. Tests are held throughout the state, typically every 2 months.  You must register a month ahead of the test you want to take.
Don't forget to send your scores to LSMSA! Our school code is 6351.

Typically, for the ACT, a 20 is considered competitive for an entering sophomore; 22 for an entering junior.
For the SAT, a 1080 is considered competitive for an entering sophomore; and 1110 for an entering junior. 

Students have the best chance if they have all or mostly A's on their report cards. Our average entering GPA is a 3.9 (unweighted).  

Come see us!  We offer a variety of ways to visit: 

• short and sweet: come for an hour-long campus tour, usually led by a current student
• visit for a day: come for an Exploration Day, where you can actually sit in on classes, eat in the cafeteria, take a tour, and meet our students
• dig a little deeper: if you're in middle school, you can come to our summer camp Summer@LSMSA, and stay for a whole week

Yes!  We welcome students from all types of backgrounds and schools. We still require transcripts showing their completed and in-progress high school credits from their homeschool provider, as well as a standardized test score (ACT, PreACT, SAT, or PSAT).  Recommendation letters can come from adults who have interacted with your child in an educational or leadership capacity. Examples include online tutors, scout troop leaders, youth group pastor or coach.  Feel free to ask specific questions to our Admissions team at 318-357-2503 or admissions@lsmsa.edu

Great! The application form is the first step. Now, you need to go back into myLSMSA (the same place you filled out the application) and you will see a checklist of materials we need from you: grades, test scores, recommendations. You can upload scans or photos of these materials to the checklist, as well as send recommendation requests.  
Both the application form AND the supplementary evidence must be submitted before your application can be decided.

If you have live instructors for your virtual classes, and they can speak about your academic performance, then you can send them the recommendation requests.  
If your virtual classes are primarily online materials, then we will accept recommendations from adults who know you in an educational or leadership capacity. Reach out to the Admissions team at admissions@LSMSA.edu or 318-357-2503 to confirm that your selections meet our requirements.

Most of our applicants have just started high school when they are applying so we always encourage students to wait until the end of the first semester to begin asking for recommendations. Let the teachers get to know you! 
We do require that the guidance counselor/principal recommendation be from an administrator at your current school.

Once a student has submitted their application form and all their documents, then we will reach out to schedule an interview.  We conduct interviews virtually using Microsoft Teams (a Microsoft account is not required).  Decisions are made after a review of all materials and the interview is completed. 
Interviews will not start before the middle of January. Decisions typically begin going out at the end of January. As we practice rolling admissions, we will continue to accept applications and make admissions offers throughout the spring and into summer, as capacity allows. 

Unfortunately, due to our accelerated college-level curriculum, we are unable to accommodate mid-year transfers. If your child is eligible to apply for the coming school year, we encourage them to do so.

Classes are very rigorous but informative. They will be different from most courses at a traditional high school since LSMSA’s courses are taught at the college level. 

Most students like to spend their weekend on Front Street, which is like a mini–French Quarter in town! There are several restaurants and shops to visit. Festivals are also a fun thing to participate in during the school year, like the Meat Pie Festival and the Christmas Festival. The best thing to do is get out there and see for yourself!

Yes, a roommate is required to live at LSMSA. It is also a fun experience to meet new people and good practice for living with other people when you get to college.

Going home on the weekends is allowed! However, there are four weekends in the school year that students are required to stay on campus due to certain events. These weekends are a graduation requirement.  Any other weekend, it is up to you: you can stay on campus or go home.

There are a wide variety of clubs at LSMSA, everything from FBLA to pool club. Students can start their own clubs as well. There are also many events that happen on campus like theatre shows, LLC events, and community dinners. We keep very busy on campus, and there is always something to do!

It is a fun and unique experience where you get to learn, socialize, and bond with other kids just like you.

Yes, you can bring your car to LSMSA! But be prepared to not be able to drive all the time as privileges can be revoked or rewarded based on your grades and behavior.
