Health & Wellness Support
At LSMSA, student success includes supporting physical, emotional and mental well-being. Our Health & Wellness services provide students with access to a school nurse and professional counselors who are committed to helping students stay healthy, navigate challenges and thrive in the rigorous academic environment.
Health Services:
LSMSA Health Services provides preventative and routine health care services, health education, and wellness support for students living and learning on campus. Students may visit the Health Services Office for assessment and treatment of minor illnesses, medication administration, wellness guidance, and assistance coordinating medical appointments and additional care when needed.

The Health Services staff works closely with students, families, Residential Life staff, and local medical providers to help support student health and well-being throughout the school year. If more extensive medical care or specialized treatment is necessary, Health Services will assist families in arranging appropriate outside medical services.
Health and wellness services offered to our students include:
- Assessment and treatment for illnesses
- Scheduling local doctors appointments and coordinating transportation
- Consultation regarding prescription and non-prescription medications
- Administration of medications
- Allergy injections (student's parent must provide serum, syringe and doctor's order)
- Breathing treatments (student's parent must provide medication and doctor's order)
- Administration of the flu vaccine
- Education on health-related topics
- Referrals to appropriate community practitioners
Additional Services:
If necessary, additional services are available through the nearby Natchitoches Regional Medical Center Walk-in Clinic.
Whenever more urgent diagnostic or treatment procedures are needed, the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center Hospital offers an emergency room and a staff of consultants trained in most health specialties.

If students need changes to medications, providers or parents may access the Medication Order Form here.
Physicians or parents may send the completed form to our Health Services team by email (healthservices@lsmsa.edu) or fax (318-357-2605).

Personal Counseling:
Students don’t have to navigate challenges alone—our counseling team is here to listen, support, and help them thrive.
LSMSA offers short-term individual and group counseling to students when the need arises. Students see the school's personal counselors to discuss a variety of concerns: time management difficulties, relationship problems, problems at home, anxiety, depression and stress management, just to name a few. Parents/guardians or school staff may refer students for counseling or students may request an appointment. Should it be determined by the personal counselor that more extensive services are necessary, the counselor will work with the family to arrange outside counseling or psychiatric services.

In addition, the personal counseling staff offers wellness programs that help to educate students about mental health.
The Counseling Center is located in the Center for Performance and Technology (CPT).
Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) is the preeminent state-supported residential high school with competitive admissions for Louisiana's high-achieving, highly-motivated sophomores, juniors, and seniors. As a public school, there is no tuition to attend, and assistance from the LSMSA Foundation ensures the program is available to all qualifying students regardless of family financial need.
