LSMSA to Host Public Veterans Day Ceremony Thursday, Nov. 12, Featuring Retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Brian Adams

Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2026, in the Northwestern State University Ballroom inside the Student Union on the NSU campus.
The program, planned and presented by LSMSA's Student Government Organization (SGO), will bring students and community members together to recognize and reflect on the service and sacrifices of United States military veterans.

This year's featured speaker is Dr. Brian L. Adams, Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army (Retired), and father of current LSMSA student Olivia Adams-Giron ('27) of Rapides Parish. Adams will share his perspective on the significance of Veterans Day and the importance of remembering those who have served.

"For me, Veterans Day is a time to reflect on those with whom I served and those whose lives were lost in service to the Nation," Adams said.

Adams also emphasized the responsibility that comes with the opportunities and freedoms made possible through generations of military service. He pointed to President Dwight D. Eisenhower's 1954 Veterans Day proclamation, which called upon Americans to remember the sacrifices of those who served and recommit themselves to the pursuit of lasting peace.

"The exceptional opportunities of our great country are unique in the world and should not be squandered; use your life and talents to accomplish things of meaning and significance, achievements worthy of the sacrifices so many have made in service to the Nation over the past 250 years," Adams said.

Veterans Day observances have been a longstanding tradition at LSMSA, dating back to 1986, when the school's second Executive Director, Dr. Richard Brown, organized the first campus-wide observance.

Through the annual student-led program, LSMSA continues its tradition of honoring military service while encouraging students to reflect on the meaning of sacrifice, citizenship, and service to others.
