Heath DeJean, Secretary

Heath DeJean ('03) practices corporate and securities law in a large firm setting in Houston, where he counsels companies on SEC compliance and Exchange Act reporting and assists clients with M&A, financing and other transactions.
Heath graduated from Hendrix College in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations (with a concentration in Economics and Business) and a minor in Religion. In college he was active in many school organizations, including the Senate Finance Committee, Social Committee, and the Aonian Literary Magazine, including serving in leadership roles in many of them. He received a Juris Doctor degree with a Graduate Diploma in Comparative Law, magna cum laude, from Louisiana State University's Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 2015. During his time in law school he focused on business/transactional law, tax exemption and general tax matters. He published a paper on the topic of IRS targeting of 501(c)(4) organizations in the Louisiana Law Review where he also acted as Production Editor, and also served as a VITA volunteer tax return preparer for two years.

Heath also performs pro bono work assisting low-income individuals in the resolution and settlement of IRS income tax disputes. He is a member of various area bar and legal services organizations, including the American Bar Association, LGBT Bar Association, and the Houston Bar Association, where he serves as an editorial board member of The Houston Lawyer, and is a founding member of the HBA LGBTQ+ Committee.
