LSMSA Student of the Year: Sam Ryan

Sam Ryan, a current senior at LSMSA, recently was selected as LSMSA’s Student of the Year. From Sugartown, LA, Sam attended East Beauregard High School before enrolling at LSMSA. While here, Sam has maintained a 4.0 GPA and has held leadership positions in several student organizations.
“Sam’s story and his conviction really made him rise to the top among a group of very strong applicants for LSMSA Student of the Year,” Director of Academic Affairs Dr. Jason Anderson said. “Sam knows why he’s here and he has a servant leader mindset; he wants to go out and better the world. When we reviewed his application, it was clear that he prioritizes opportunities to serve and give to others. Sure, he was recognized as the top student in nearly every subject at his previous school but what really stood out were the photos of Sam on a roof repairing houses in his community after a hurricane and working as a camp counselor for the Lion’s Camp.”

Ryan has shown impressive leadership on campus, as well, according to Anderson. “As SGO president this year, I see him directing that group towards service, as well. His focus is not on the glory of holding the office, but rather on doing the work behind the scenes that can improve the LSMSA experience for his peers.”
This is the third year that LSMSA has been invited to participate in the state Student of the Year competition. Ryan joins previous honorees, Olutunmike “Tum-Tum “Adeleye (LSMSA ‘22) and Rosie Schultz (LSMSA ‘23). Adeleye currently attends Tulane University and Schultz is a student at Brown University.
