LSMSA earns top rankings from NICHE

Louisiana School in top 1% of high schools, instructors named #1 in Louisiana and #5 nationwide

The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts has once again earned top rankings with an overall A+ grade, according to Niche’s 2024 Best Public High Schools in America list. Since Niche rankings began, LSMSA has consistently ranked in the top 1 percent of public high schools. Additionally, the school’s teachers were listed as #1 in the state and #5 in the nation, and LSMSA was also named #2 in the state for Best STEM High Schools, and #3 in Best Public High Schools in Louisiana.

“Students can tell when instructors not only love what they do, but are also willing to invest time and energy into making sure concepts are grasped,” said Senior Biology Lecturer Dr. Jason Anderson, who was recently named the school’s Interim Director of Academic Affairs. “That’s part of what has made the LSMSA living/learning environment so unique for the past 40 years.”

Through articulation agreements with 13 in-state universities and one in Georgia, students have opportunities to earn more than 70 general education credit hours during their time at LSMSA. Additionally, Northwestern State University offers LSMSA students options for dual enrollment credit, and both NSU and the University of Louisiana at Monroe offer LSMSA students the opportunity to earn an Associate in of General Studies while enrolled at LSMSA.

“Attending LSMSA gives Louisiana's highest-achieving students a unique and rigorous opportunity to not only earn an internationally recognized diploma, but to also gain a significant number of college credit hours,” said Emily Shumate, LSMSA Director of Enrollment Management & Institutional Research. “LSMSA is the perfect fit for motivated students who have an eye on their futures.”

Niche’s annual K-12 rankings are based on a rigorous analysis of dozens of statistical factors and millions of reviews from students and parents. Along with the rankings, Niche also released report cards, assigning letter grades to more than 100,000 K-12 schools and districts across America on topics like academics, college readiness and teachers.
