LSMSA’s Isabella Leslie receives national French honors

On Tuesday, May 9, LSMSA student Isabella Leslie (’23) of Lake Charles received a 2023 Outstanding Senior in French Award from the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF). 
The AATF was founded in 1927 to promote of the study of French language and French-speaking literatures and cultures at all levels.
          
The award is made annually to a graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence in the study of French as well as exceptional commitment to the French language and the cultures where it is spoken. Recipients must have completed at least three years of French study at the time of graduation and be non-native speakers of French. In addition to meeting these requirements, Leslie competed in the National French Week Contest, participated in local and state competitions, and won several awards. She is a French Club officer and a member of the French Honor Society at the Louisiana School.
          
In addition to this honor, Leslie is also the recipient of a CODOFIL scholarship to attend a three-week summer program at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium. The program consists of classes to perfect her French language and literature skills as well as excursions and guided visits to discover the city of Brussels. The scholarship is offered by Wallonie-Bruxelles International and covers the class, housing in an on-campus dorm, and meals.
 
LSMSA is a tuition-free, residential, public high school for high-achieving rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a nominal room and board fee to cover housing, meals, and campus activities. The LSMSA Foundation offers assistance for families in need.
