Staff Spotlight: An interview with Mrs. Karen Townsend

If you've ever been to a special event at LSMSA, you've probably seen Mrs. Karen's handiwork! Learn more about LSMSA's Coordinator of Special Events and Services.
How long have you been at LSMSA?
My first time working here was around 1990. I was a recruiter in the Admissions Office, where I traveled around the state from one school to another recruiting students. My second time working here I joined the Business Office and have been there ever since.

What do you love the most about working at LSMSA?
The people -- both the students and the faculty!

What is the most fun experience you’ve had in life?
When Oprah Winfrey came to Natchitoches! She got to meet my mother and my kids.

What is the most interesting experience you’ve had at LSMSA?
Every year getting to plan graduation is fun. Even though so much time goes into the planning of this short ceremony, it's great getting to have this contact with the families of our students.

What's your favorite event you’ve attended while here at LSMSA?
My first time ever getting to attend Eagle Antics, which was this year! I had the opportunity to judge the friendly hall competitions and see everyone in that atmosphere.

What's one piece of advice you would give to a student going here?
Enjoy every minute of your time -- the good and the stressful.

What would you like to tell people who donate to LSMSA about why their donation is important?
As a donor myself, I can assure supporters that you can have confidence your money is being spent wisely in ways that support both the students and the faculty.
