Eight LSMSA students to serve on Mayor’s Youth Council
Eight students from the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) have been selected to serve on the City of Natchitoches Mayor’s Youth Council.
LSMSA students selected are: Joy Dong (’23) of Lake Charles; Moira Franks (’24) of Baton Rouge; Lillah Garcia (’24) of Breaux Bridge; Grace Guidry (’23) of Covington; Zion Johnson (’24) of Opelousas; Kamryn Keys (’23) of Lake Charles; Kaylee Raper (’24) of Bossier City; and Diamond Smith (’24) of Coushatta.
The Natchitoches Mayor’s Youth Council is a semester-long program for students in the Natchitoches area that promotes civic engagement and inspires the next generation by fostering participation in city government and volunteerism. The Council will meet monthly in the City Council Chambers and will have opportunities to advocate for causes relevant to area youth.
“We are thrilled to have so many representatives from LSMSA on this year’s Council,” said LSMSA Executive Director Dr. Steve Horton. “This is a wonderful way for students to learn the workings of city government, and we are grateful to Mayor Williams for considering Louisiana School applicants.”
LSMSA is a tuition-free, residential, public high school for high-achieving rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a nominal room and board fee to cover housing, meals, and campus activities. The LSMSA Foundation offers assistance for families in need.

“I applied to serve on the Mayor’s Youth Council because I wanted firsthand experience in the governing of the city,” said LSMSA junior Grace Guidry (’23) of Covington. “Now I get to share my ideas and be a part of something bigger than me!”
