LSMSA named one of the nation's Top 500 STEM schools

In the Nov. 8 edition of Newsweek Magazine, LSMSA was named as one of the top 500 STEM schools in the nation.

“LSMSA’s mission is focused heavily on offering an educational experience that includes advanced opportunities for learing in the STEM areas,” said LSMSA Executive Director Dr. Steve Horton. “We are honored to be recognized by Newsweek for the work of our faculty, staff and students.”

LSMSA offers college level instruction and interactive laboratories through more than 100 STEM courses offered by highly qualified professors, most of whom hold terminal degrees in their subject area. Students at the school receive a unique curriculum not typically available at public high schools.

“Hands-on experience is so important in the world of science and technology and, at LSMSA, we pride ourselves on the quality of our labs,” said Department Chair of Sciences Dr. Allison Landry.

In a partnership with STEM.org, Newsweek analyzed more than 30,000 schools over a three-year period to determine the rankings.

“With high-profile institutions in big urban areas and small but strong programs across the nation, America’s future in science, technology, engineering and mathematics is in good hands,” said Nancy Cooper, global editor in chief for Newsweek.

Schools were ranked based on a broad set of quantitative and qualitative data inputs collected from 2015 to 2019 as well as additional factors including affluence and median household income.
