Nine to perform with All-State honor ensembles

Students will represent school at LMEA fall conference
Nine students will represent LSMSA in various All-State honor ensembles at the Louisiana Music Educator’s Association Fall Conference to be held Nov. 16-20 in Baton Rouge.

Kathy Barrios (alto), a senior from Houma, will participate in the All-State Mixed Choir.

Four will play with the All-State Orchestra. They are Devon Mathews (violin), a senior from Natchitoches; Lauren Mathews (cello), a sophomore from Natchitoches; Jason Min (cello), a sophomore from West Monroe; and Jonas Truax (trombone), a junior from Denham Springs.

The All-State Symphonic Band includes Garett Byrne (trombone), a senior from Walker, and Juan Cecchini (horn), a junior from Denham Springs.

Hannah Hauptman (horn), a junior from Denham Springs, and Julian Hunter (trumpet), a senior from Lafayette, will play with the All-State Concert Band.

The LMEA sponsors six All-State ensembles: Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Mixed Choir, Women’s Chorale, Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble. To be eligible to be chosen for any of the ensembles, a student must be in ninth through 12th grades, the ensemble director must be a current LMEA member and students must be enrolled in a Louisiana-accredited high school and must be an active member of that school’s ensemble program. Students are eligible for membership in only one All-State group.

The mission of the LMEA is to provide leadership, professional development and support for its membership to ensure quality music education.
