Regional students attend summer camp

Summer @LSMSA welcomes campers to campus
What did you do this summer? I learned how to create apps for my Android device, experimented with various types of writing, engaged in leadership activities and development, explored Natchitoches, dove into human behavior and the mind, explored the field of robotics and learned yoga poses and breathing techniques, among many other things.

These answers could be attributed to the more than 140 campers who enjoyed the popular Summer @LSMSA camp offered by the Office of External Affairs at LSMSA during the first two weeks of June.

Rising seventh, eighth and ninth grade students from across the region descended on Caddo Hall on Sunday, June 4, for the first of two weeks of camp. The second week of camp began Sunday, June 11. Campers had the option of attending one or both weeks of camp.

After eating breakfast in the cafeteria each morning with current LSMSA students enrolled in summer school, campers met in the lobby of the Center for Performance and Technology and dispersed to the first of three two-hour sessions. Each session was taught by LSMSA faculty and staff. In 2016, the LSMSA faculty was ranked first in the nation by Niche.com.

Courses for the camp included App Development, Ballet for Beginners, Ballet Masterclass, Creative Computing, Creative Writing, Discover Natchitoches, Earth Exploration, Emerging Leaders, Entrepreneurship, Everyday Physics, Exploring the Human Body, Geology for Enthusiasts, Introduction to Music Theory, Jazz Dance for Beginners, Jazz Masterclass, Journalism Today, Piano for the Total Beginner, Piano Masterclass, Plants and Society, Psychology in Everyday Life, Robotics, the Hero’s Quest in Pop Culture and Yoga 101.

Campers were also able to enjoy fun activities during the evening hours, including painting, karaoke, drawing, rocket science, bowling, pool party, tie dye and much more.

Following the last session of the week, campers enjoyed water slides, cotton candy, sno cones, games and a cookout.

Do not miss out on next year’s popular Summer @LSMSA camp. Details about and registration for 2018 will be available at www.LSMSA.edu/summer in mid-February.
