Louisiana Tech grad shows work in Art Gallery

Closing reception is March 30
The art work of Liz Zanca will be on display now through Thursday, March 30, in the art gallery of the Center for Performance and Technology located on the campus of LSMSA.

Zanca completed her B.F.A. in studio art from Louisiana Tech University in 2015. During her time at Tech, her interest in sculpture and painting grew into a relief-styled work. She has hiked the Appalachian Trail in Virginia, explored Niagara Falls, scaled Pinnacle Mountain in Arkansas and camped all over the northeast. Those places have strongly influenced her paintings.

Zanca’s relief-style paintings are landscapes that capture moments of nature that are reminiscent of home. Her work has been recently featured at the Upstairs Gallery in Monroe. She has also participated in the Masur Museum of Art’s Off the Wall annual fundraisers and 6x6x2015 in Rochester, New York. She currently works at the Frame of Mind and Gallery 203 in Ruston as their gallery director.

“Landscapes are highly dynamic, when walking through them each step changes the view and affects one’s emotions,” said Zanca. “With each painting I impress a mood onto the subject before me.

“The mood might be related to an experience with the space, a memory attached to the people from a place, or a feeling felt from remembering the scene. It might be a construction of similar recollections from more than one place. By connecting mood with memory, I help the viewer connect his own memories with the piece.”

The LSMSA Art Gallery is open from 12 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. A closing reception with the artist will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, in the lobby of the CPT.
