School welcomes new assistant director of residence life

James begins new job at the new year
Leroy James began the school year as the student life advisor for 1C in Prudhomme Hall at LSMSA. He began the new year as the assistant director of residence life.

“Going from 30 students on one hall to 300 students on 10 halls is going to be a big change,” said James. “With the help of the residence life team and the support of the LSMSA community, I know that this will be a smooth transition.”

James was named the assistant director of residence life in December after a nationwide search.

“The selection committee was excited to offer the position to Leroy,” said Emily Shumate, director of student services. “Throughout the interview process, it was clear that Leroy offers leadership skills, enthusiasm and a vision for the position that mirrors the priorities of the institution.

“I look forward to working with him in this important leadership role.”

James said this new opportunity will allow him to make positive change in the residence life program that will benefit LSMSA students.

“I have a passion for working in residence life and with high school students,” he said. “I hope to bring new ideas, energy and a fresh outlook to residence life at LSMSA.”

Prior to joining the residence life staff at LSMSA, James served as the weekend supervisor of the student union at Henderson State University. He earned a Bachelor of Science in education, specializing in social science/secondary education, from Henderson State University. He is a certified 7-12 teacher, and he plans to pursue a Master of Educational Leadership degree.

“The LSMSA community is why I enjoy being here,” he said. “The faculty and staff are one-of-a kind. It is great to be part of a community that cares about you, the students, the parents and the school.”
