Instructor receives recognition

Class of 2016 student nominates Zolzer for special honor
An instructor from LSMSA was selected to receive a special honor from the Teacher Tribute Initiative sponsored by Stanford University.

David Zolzer, a lecturer of computer science since 2005, was nominated for the recognition by Vy Mai, a member of the LSMSA Class of 2016 and a freshman at Stanford University.

This summer, members of Stanford’s Class of 2020 were given the opportunity to acknowledge a former educator who played a significant role in their intellectual, academic and personal development.

“While the influence of former teachers is truly invaluable, students do not have the opportunity to express their appreciation,” said Richard H. Shaw, dean of undergraduate admission and financial aid at Stanford. “With this in mind, Stanford University is pleased to sponsor the Teacher Tribute Initiative.”

According to Mai, Zolzer has been a great mentor at LSMSA for many years and has helped to instill an interest for computer science within his students.

“I entered high school with doubts about my future,” said Mai. “However, taking some of Mr. Zolzer’s classes helped me realize my true passion in computer science.

“I would later have the courage to apply to Stanford and pursue my dream. Thus, I want to sincerely thank Mr. Zolzer for his support, time and overall wonderful existence.”

The faculty at LSMSA was recently ranked as the number one public high school faculty in the nation by Niche.com.
