Art Gallery to display work of William Beier

The art work of William Beier will be on display now through Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the art gallery of the Center for Performance and Technology located on the campus of LSMSA.
Born in Michigan in 1952, Beier traveled throughout much of his early life, from England to Washington, D.C., to Turkey and back to D.C. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, he attended the University of Virginia, graduating with a degree in English language and literature in 1975. He returned to UVA in 1979 to receive an M.A. in English language and literature.

During the last 40 years, he earned another graduate degree in art, then taught English writing and literature courses, as well as art history and studio art courses for several colleges and universities overseas and in Louisiana. He also served for several years as a faculty member in the LSMSA Virtual School.

In 2007, after retiring from academia, his attention turned fully toward investigating and expressing new dimensions in the art of painting. Pursuant to this endeavor, he has also been engaged in preparing an art appreciation text that substantially revises the traditional method of communicating art experience to audiences. In addition, the text is also meant to serve as a manual for art students and other art professionals by presenting a taxonomic scheme analyzing and organizing images in order to help focus their own creations.

Beier is married to Dr. Nahla Beier, a former faculty member at LSMSA, and has three grown sons, two of whom are LSMSA alums.

His exhibits have included a one-man show, “Academic Exercises,” at the Orville Hanchey Gallery at Northwestern State University and “The New Abstractionists IX” at the Walter Wickiser Gallery in New York City.

A reception will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, in the lobby of the CPT.

The art gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information contact Chris King at cking@lsmsa.edu.
