Hispanic Honor Society welcomes 23 new members

Twenty-three students were initiated into the Hispanic Honor Society at LSMSA on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
Only students with at least two consecutive semesters of study of the language at LSMSA and with an average of 88 percent or higher in Spanish are invited to be members. Also, students who come from other schools, place at level two or higher and maintain an average of 88 percent or higher during their first semester at LSMSA are invited to be members.

Other requirements to be a member and maintain membership include having a clean disciplinary record, a whole cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.3 at the end of each academic year at LSMSA, no Ds at the end of each semester, continuous attendance at the monthly meetings, active participation in the club’s activities and participation in the Society’s annual community service project that is chosen by the students at the beginning of each academic year.

Members of the Society participate in the annual Southeastern Louisiana University Foreign Language Festival and in Literary Rally with a very high rate of success. The Society also provides Spanish peer tutors for the LSMSA community all year round and a variety of events for Hispanic Heritage Month.

Sponsored by Dr. Maria Sanchez, the LSMSA chapter of the Society was created during the 2010-11 academic year. The name of the chapter is Plus Ultra and the motto is All Together.
