Several students from LSMSA tried out for various district and state honor bands and choirs during the Louisiana Music Educators Association District 2 auditions held Saturday, Sept. 17.
Both band and choir will rehearse and present a concert at the LMEA fall conference in Baton Rouge Nov. 17-21.
The following students were selected to continue on to the second round of auditions, to be held Oct. 9 at Pineville High School, where they will compete against the top students in the six other districts in the state for places in the All-State groups:
Veronica Jimenez, a senior from Bogalusa and Sarah Green, a junior from Houma, flute; Genesis Lambert, a senior from Denham Springs, clarinet; Marcos Cecchini, a senior from Denham Springs, and Abby Pace, a junior from Iowa, alto saxes; Christian Hairr, a senior from Sulphur, bassoon; Julian Hunter, a junior from Lafayette, trumpet; Juan Cecchini, a sophomore from Denham Springs, horn; Jonas Truax, a sophomore from Denham Springs, trombone; Garett Byrne, a junior from Denham Springs, trombone and bass trombone; Shona McCullough, a senior from Baton Rouge, tuba; Kathy Barrios, a junior from Houma, alto; and Christopher Comeaux, a sophomore from Covington, bass.
The following students were selected to participate in the Louisiana State American Choral Directors Association All-State choirs, which will rehearse and perform at the LAACDA fall conference in New Orleans Nov. 3-5:
Milan Arpino, a senior from Monroe, soprano; Caroline Koonce, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, soprano; Hannah Rice, a junior from Mandeville, soprano; Barrios, alto; Hairr, tenor; Luke Boston, a sophomore from Covington, tenor; Byrne, bass; and Comeaux, bass.
Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) is the preeminent state-supported residential high school with competitive admissions for Louisiana's high-achieving, highly-motivated sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
