New Employee Spotlight: Heather Tichenor

The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts would like to welcome and introduce Heather Tichenor, our new Assistant Director of Enrollment Services.
Heather comes to us with a wealth of experience working as a supervisor and director at museums and heritage sites, where her responsibilities have included public-speaking, planning and conducting outreach events, leading tours, and running summer camps.

"We know she will be a tremendous asset to our team and we are excited to have her join us," said Emily Shumate, director of enrollment and student services.

Heather moved to Natchitoches a couple of years ago from Toronto, Canada, so she's still adjusting to Louisiana summers.

She grew up on the prairies in Saskatchewan, Canada and attended the University of Regina and the University of Toronto, completing a BA in History and an MA in Medieval Studies respectively.

Before joining LSMSA, Heather worked in public history and museums in Connecticut, Virginia, Toronto, and in Natchitoches at Melrose Plantation. This work has given her experience in public speaking, presenting complex information in informative and engaging ways, event and program management, and outreach programming, all of which she looks forward to using at the Louisiana School to find and engage as many of Louisiana's best and brightest students as she can.

Heather's husband, Dr. Morris Tichenor, is the Associate Director of Latin at LSMSA.

"His continually positive comments about the students and staff really made an impression on me," Heather shared. "I have always loved being a student so I am excited that I get to work at (and promote) a school where student achievement is celebrated in such a welcoming and nurturing environment."

Heather loves history, K-dramas, traveling, and building Lego with her two sons.
