LSMSA honors traditions, ensures safety with adapted Ring and Matriculation Ceremonies

To keep the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) community safe, two of the school's annual traditions will be held virtually this year. The Ring Ceremony for the Class of 2022 will be held on Friday, Sept. 24 at 4:30 p.m. and the Matriculation Ceremony will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. during a new Traditions Weekend for students, faculty, and staff.
LSMSA’s first Ring Ceremony was held on May 19, 1984 for seniors, and the tradition stems from that morning 37 years ago. Likewise, the Matriculation Ceremony is a time-honored event where the school welcomes new and returning students, recognizes their accomplishments, reinforces their commitment to the school, and encourages them to apply the necessary diligence to persevere until reaching commencement.

“While students will attend the events of Traditions Weekend in person, we made the hard decision to hold these events as livestream-only for parents and other visitors,” Executive Director Dr. Steve Horton explained. “It's important to us that students have the best experience possible while they’re on campus, even during a pandemic.”
