LSMSA students will benefit from newly signed articulation agreement with LSUS

“This agreement will allow our students to step into the college classroom with their potential maximized for success,” said Executive Director Dr. Steve Horton.

 

The LSUS strategic plan includes the mission to develop partnerships with high schools to prepare students for postsecondary education. 

 

“We envisage these partnerships as dynamic, based on meaningful intellectual exchange between our faculty and our partner high schools, with field trips, visiting speakers, and lecture series,” said Dr Elisabeth Liebert, associate dean of Arts and Sciences at LSUS. "LSMSA prepares outstanding graduates. Many of them are eligible for LSUS’s top-flight guaranteed scholarship, the Louisiana Scholarship, which offers full tuition, as well as a stipend to purchase textbooks.”

 

The plan is to bring LSMSA students to the LSUS campus this Fall to explore their Cyber Collaboratory facilities.

 

“We hope that our articulation agreement – in addition to new facilities and cutting-edge technologies, such as our Cyber Collaboratory and HPE lab – will bring more of these top students to our campus,” said Liebert.

 

Director of Academic Services at LSMSA, Dr. Kristi Pope Key, said this new partnership with LSUS opens up yet another exciting pathway for LSMSA students to enter college with advanced standing and to work with some of the finest faculty in the state.  

 

“We're especially appreciative of Dr. Elisabeth Liebert's efforts to bring this agreement to bear after several months of conversation on the matter,” said Dr. Key. “For our students interested in staying in North Louisiana, they have another great option to consider for their undergraduate and graduate work.”  

Additionally, there are many other benefits for students who take advantage of this opportunity. Many LSMSA graduates who earn credit under this agreement will start LSUS as sophomores or juniors with all of the general education requirements complete, allowing them to get a jump start on the courses within their major.  This ultimately has the potential to reduce the number of semesters it takes a student to graduate, saving them money in the form of tuition/fees. Also, because TOPS provides 8 semesters of undergraduate or graduate tuition, if a student finishes their undergraduate degree in less than 8 semesters, they may be eligible to use TOPS for graduate work at public universities in Louisiana.
