Faculty Faves: Where are Art and Sharon Williams now?

If you think Art and Sharon Williams are institutions at Louisiana School, you’re not exaggerating. One of the school’s first employees, Sharon was hired by the late Dr. Alost in 1982 to oversee Residential Life, and Art moved from South Carolina in 1984 to begin teaching at LSMSA. These two are so Louisiana School that they were even set up by a member of the school’s first graduating class, Caprice Brown Ieyoub (‘85) of Donaldsonville. But what has the couple been up to since retiring?
Since Sharon retired in 2012 as Director of Admissions and Art in 2015 as former Executive Director and instructor of English, the two have stayed in Natchitoches while also spending a lot of time with their “half-wild shelter dogs,” expanding their family, and traveling. Even outside of Natchitoches, however, LSMSA remains an underlying current for the Williams.

“One of the great things about Louisiana School is how widespread its alumni are,” Sharon said, recalling running into former students on other cities’ sidewalks and seeing them as reporters on TV. “Whether we’re in New York or New Orleans, we know we can meet up with someone from LSMSA -- and we do!”

And just last year, their daughter Sarah Williams Busby (‘07) made them grandparents with a “little pandemic baby.”  

With Art teaching part-time and serving on the school’s board and Sharon chairing some committees, both remain involved in LSMSA and enjoy seeing its progress. Most poignant, though, are their memories of their time at the school. 

“We feel very fortunate to be able to do what we were educated to do at a school that offers such academic rigor in a supportive environment,” said Art. “I will always treasure the great collegiate relationships I gained from the Department of Humanities.”
