Donor-purchased technology allows students to safely return to campus
Thanks to the generosity of donors, LSMSA was able to purchase the REACH platform to ensure a safe in-person return to school this semester. The software automates many manual processes, including necessary daily COVID symptom checkers for on-campus students, faculty and staff.
“We’ve dreamed about purchasing this software for several years, and it became even more valuable as we tried to work around the logistics of a pandemic,” said Emily Shumate, MS; LSMSA Director of Enrollment and Student Services. “Without the generosity of our supporters, we’d be faced with the impossible task of trying to manually manage and respond to COVID symptoms for every person on campus each day in addition to typical residential school logistics. Having this software is definitely a game-changer.”
The REACH platform is specifically designed for residential school use, and reduces the numbers of forms that students, parents and staff have to complete and transmit. In addition to the automated COVID daily symptom checker, platform features include electronic sign-in/sign-out/speed bumping, Internet security-compliant messaging with individuals or groups of students, online sign-up for events including Walmart runs, populating user calendars with personalized events, and room check documentation.
Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) is the preeminent state-supported residential high school with competitive admissions for Louisiana's high-achieving, highly-motivated sophomores, juniors, and seniors. As a public school, there is no tuition to attend, and assistance from the LSMSA Foundation ensures the program is available to all qualifying students regardless of family financial need.
