Beatrice Hoang ('20) wins overall at Emerging Artists Competition

She will now have the opportunity to play with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra.
Beatrice Hoang, a junior at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA), was the overall champion at the Marjorie Stricklin Emerging Artists Competition in Monroe. With her win, she will now have the opportunity to perform Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra during the 2019-20 season.

“I am honored to be playing with the Monroe Symphony!” expressed Hoang. “I'm looking forward to playing the concerto as a learning experience and as a beautiful collaborative experience to share with everyone.”

Hoang performed at the Emerging Artists Competition on Saturday, Jan. 12, where she won the Youth Piano Division. Later that evening, she went on to compete in the finals and won first place overall against the division winners in piano, voice, strings, and winds.

She has also worked with Saida Kafarova in Austin, Texas, and is now a student of LSMSA’s Senior Lecturer of Piano Charles Jones.

Hoang has been playing piano since the age of five.

“My primary goal as a pianist is to make music that evokes emotion,” she expressed. “Playing piano is more than just playing all the right notes. I want to make something beautiful and touch people's hearts.”

Last October, Hoang placed first at the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Senior Performance competition for the state of Louisiana. She also placed first playing alongside her brother Ben at the Texas MTNA Senior Piano Duet Competition. With these accomplishments, she will go on to perform at the MTNA South Central Division regional competitions
for a chance to advance to the national finals in Spokane, Washington.

I enjoy performing as a pianist and would definitely love to have more performance opportunities,” said Hoang. “The more experience I have, the more I can improve.”
