Senior to be published in literary journal

Noah Broussard has had two works published in the past two years.
Writers across the globe dream of having their work published. One student at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) has now been published not once, but twice.

“Girl, Goat, Glass,” a short story by senior Noah Broussard, has been accepted into the literary journal Rare Byrd Review. The publication is dedicated to showcasing written works by high school juniors and seniors.

Broussard’s story will be published in the journal’s 2019 winter edition. Originally from Abbeville, he has been writing for five years but has only recently considered publishing his work.

“Seeing as this is my second publication, I am extremely grateful for the editors of Rare Byrd Review,” said Broussard. “This is also the first time that a short story of mine was published.”

Last year, Broussard was published in the Austin International Poetry Festival Youth Anthology for his poem titled “Before Salvation.” The work was inspired by “Purgatorio,” the second installment of the famous narrative poem, The Divine Comedy.

“Girl, Goat, and Glass” is a modern retelling of the famous fairytale Hansel and Gretel.

“The inspiration for my story was doing my own research on the violence in classic fairytales, as well as different interpretations of that violence,” expressed Broussard. “I was heavily influenced by Angela Carter and her feminist reconstruction of famous French fairytales.”
