Students visit with state representatives at capital

Four students from LSMSA visited the state capital in Baton Rouge on Monday, May 28, to discuss the school’s budget with state representatives and voice their concern for proposed cuts. The students were rising seniors William Casey and William Heitman and rising junior Steely Forrester, all of Baton Rouge, and Benjamin Walker, a rising senior from Mandeville. “This trip gave us insight into how our school budget is determined and also showed us how we can work to change our laws for the better,” said William Heitman. Heitman will serve as the president of the Student Government Organization for 2018-19 and served as president of the junior class for the 2017-18 school year. Casey will serve as the student director of communications and as a senior class senator in the fall. Steely Forrester served as a sophomore class senator and plans to seek office for the next school year. Benjamin Walker sits on the executive board of the Student Activities Board. The students spoke with Reps. Beryl Amedee of Houma, Julie Emerson of Carencro, Paula Davis of Baton Rouge and Steve Pugh of Ponchatoula.
