Two present at ACS national meeting in New Orleans

Two students from LSMSA presented a poster of their original research during the national meeting and exposition of the American Chemical Society held March 18-22 in New Orleans.

Ruby Kharod, a senior from Opelousas, and Kerry Doyle, a senior from Eros, presented “Development of a Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Laboratory Course.”

Also attending were students Shivam Shah, a junior from Bossier City, Casey Tonnies, a junior from Bossier City, and Presley Simmons, a senior from Walker. Dr. Stephen Costin, associate lecturer of chemistry, and Dr. Michele Stover, lecturer of chemistry, accompanied the students.

“While there, we had the opportunity to see many presentations on the latest research as well as some on the history of chemistry and food science,” said Costin. “We attempted to make new contacts in the field in hopes of future collaborations or other opportunities for LSMSA and its students.”

At the expo, Costin and Stover saw the latest in instrumentation and software they may be able to incorporate into future coursework and research.

The ACS national meeting and expo is where chemistry professionals meet to share ideas and advance scientific and technical knowledge.
