Sixty compete at district literary rally

Fourteen earn recognition as medal winners
Sixty students from LSMSA participated in the Northwest Louisiana District Literary Rally held Saturday, Feb. 24, at Northwestern State University.

More than 1,500 high school students and administrators throughout the region attended the event. Students were tested in 47 different academic areas in an effort to advance to the state rally competition. The state rally will be held Saturday, April 21, on the campus of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

Recognized as medal winners were Zachary Schleter, a junior from Lake Charles, Biology II and Journalism I; Bryce Moulton, a senior from Natchitoches, Environmental Science; Rachel Schnadelbach, a junior from Hammond, Spanish II; Grace Fields, a junior from Prairieville, Chemistry; Lily Orgeron, a junior from Lockport, Advanced Math – Pre-Calculus; Kathryn Lee, a sophomore from Natchitoches, Algebra II; Shivam Shah, a junior from Bossier City, Calculus; Steely Forrester, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, English II; Emilyann St Blanc, a senior from Franklin, French I; Kathy Barrios, a senior from Houma, French II; Elyse Duplantier, a junior from Zachary, French III; Ben Walker, a junior from Mandeville, Psychology; and Connor Harrington, a junior from Baton Rouge, Physics.

Other state qualifiers include Katie McElveen, a junior from Deridder, Spanish I; Niko Perez, a senior from Monroe, Spanish IV; Andrew Huze, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, World History; Sydney Schroedter, a junior from Lafayette, Civics; Karan Baker, a sophomore from New Iberia, Biology I; Alena Noakes, a senior from Dry Prong, Journalism I; Cooper Miller, a junior from Natchitoches, Government; Olivia Pereda, a senior from Kentwood, Fine Arts Survey; and Casey Tonnies, a junior from Bossier City.
