Dear LSMSA Alumni,
Over the past few weeks, LSMSA has joined the worldwide efforts to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation to protect the health and well-being of our students, faculty, staff and visitors to our campus. LSMSA’s plans and response are being based on federal and state guidelines, and in partnership with the city, parish, Northwestern State University, and the Natchitoches Parish School Board.
Alumni Association President Jamie Smith met with school administrators on Monday afternoon, March 9 about plans for Reunion Weekend. As a result of those discussions, the difficult but important decision was made to cancel the on-campus reunion activities scheduled for Friday through Sunday, March 20-22, 2020.
The class coordinators for each reunion class (1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, and 2010) were contacted via telephone to inform them of the change in schedule so that they could make appropriate decisions about their individual class events on Saturday night. The coordinators of those reunions have elected to cancel this year’s reunion events. There is some early discussion about those classes gathering to celebrate during Reunion Weekend 2021, and we are confident those discussions will continue over the course of the next year. As soon as the Alumni Association and the school establish the date for Reunion Weekend 2021, we will share that date with you.
If you have already purchased tickets for any of the Reunion Weekend events, you will have the option of receiving a refund of your registration fees. Angela Couvillion, Executive Director of the LSMSA Foundation, will contact you in a separate email later this month.
Although we are disappointed to forego LSMSA’s traditional reunion experiences this year, we are confident this is the appropriate course of action to keep the community safe.
