Five attend closing session of conference

Four students and an instructor attended the concluding session of the Unité et Diversité, Unity and Diversity: A Conference on Louisiana French on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Fort St. Jean Baptist State Historic Site in Natchitoches.
The advanced French students were Veronica Jimenez, a senior from Bogalusa; Kennedy Ellendeer, a senior from Westlake; Rachel Judson, a sophomore from Lake Charles; and Hannah Miller, a junior from Baton Rouge.

Accompanying them was Dr. David Wood, senior lecturer of French at LSMSA.

The last session was “une table francaise” in which the attendees learned some Louisiana/Cajun French and equivalents in standard French.

A tour of the fort, constructed in the early 1800s, was included.

The conference was sponsored by the Louisiana Creole Heritage Center at Northwestern State University, the Cane River National Heritage Area, the Cane River Creole National Heritage Park and Council for the Development of French in Louisiana.
