Class of '89 Reunion Info

04/13/2009

Greetings Classmates of 1989!  If you can believe it, our 20 year reunion is upon us and we are in the midst of planning our festivities!  As many of you have heard through emails from me, mailings from the school, or postings on http://www.lsmsareunion.com/, the dates for our reunion are Friday, May 22-Sunday, May 24.  During this weekend, we will also be privileged to take part in the ceremonies celebrating the 25th graduating class, as well as the ribbon-cutting on the brand-new cafeteria and arts facility!  I know it will be a wonderful weekend and hope you will be able to join us for the celebration!

The plan for the weekend will be very similar to the agenda we had at our 10 year.  We will begin with a casual meet-and-greet on Friday night (a come-and-go) at Mama’s and Papa’s Bar and Grill on Front Street.  We will be there from 6pm until close to welcome you back to Natchitoches.  There are two wonderful restaurants/bars there that will provide you with food and beverage, should you require it!  Saturday will begin with a continental breakfast and tour of the High School Building, as well as Alumni Association and LSMSA Foundation meetings (should you feel the need).  Most likely, this will also be the time that will be set aside for the Ribbon Cutting on the new facility!  At 1:00, we will all move to Prather Coliseum for one of the newer traditions to the School.  We will precede the graduating class into the Coliseum and line their walkway as they enter for the ceremony—a physical “passing of the torch”, if you will, for the newest alumni to join the ranks!  We will be welcomed and greeted as special guests, and then allowed to slip quietly away (maybe to make a quick run to Maggio’s!!).  After graduation, from 3-5 p.m. the Alumni Association will be hosting a reception at Russell Hall on campus.  Please feel free to stop by this event to welcome our newest alumni and their parents to our ranks!  At 8pm, we will begin our “official” reunion event, to be held at The Landing Restaurant on Front Street.  We will have heavy hors d’oeuvres, desserts, beer, and a cash bar.  Late Sunday morning, Mama’s has agreed to open their restaurant to us for a farewell brunch.  We are also tossing around the idea of a crawfish boil for this event, but as the time draws closer, we will see what the restaurant is able to do! ?

Once again this year, Kristine Coreil (older sister of our classmate, Karla) has generously offered to coordinate babysitting for those that might need or desire childcare for the Saturday night event.  Generally, it is hosted at a local church and staffed by several college-aged students.  Please contact her at 318-214-9179 or coreilk@nsula.edu in order to coordinate your needs!

Lodging has come quite a ways since our tenure in Natchitoches.  There are many, many options for those traveling from out of town.  Catherine Credeur has secured blocks of rooms at two different hotels near the interstate.  At the Best Western, double or king rooms will be $88 per night.  At the Holiday Inn Express double or king rooms will be $108 per night.  They will also have 5 queen suites (2 queen beds, loveseat, wet bar) available for $120 per night.  The hotels are managed by the same company and are adjacent to each other. Both hotels have pools. They share the gazebo (potential late night gathering spot) in the middle of the parking areas. All rooms have a microwave and fridge and provide a continental breakfast.  Alumni will need to book directly with the hotel at either (318) 352-6655 for the Best Western or (318)354-9911 for the Holiday Inn Express. Unsold rooms will be released 2 weeks before the event.  There are also many, many bed and breakfasts throughout Natchitoches, some of which can be viewed at http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/natchitoches-louisiana.html.

As part of the reunion survey we found that many people would like an electronic “where are we now” directory.  Please be sure to fill out the bottom portion of this form even if you are unable to attend so that we can update your information for your classmates.  I will make sure that all classmates will receive a copy of this information.

In order to make this easier on everyone, both in the planning stages and in the financial arena, we will begin taking reservations for the weekend beginning immediately!  If you would like to “space” your payments throughout the spring, we would be more than happy to facilitate that!  The total cost for the weekend is going to be $50 per adult.

As you can see, the weekend will have a little something for everyone!  As we head toward the reunion date, please remember to keep the 25 Drive! in mind and our class goal of $25,000.  We have (sadly!) been overtaken by our JUNIORS in total class participation!  Any and all donations will count toward our participation, so please think about adding an additional amount to your reunion funds to be given to the Foundation.

Please send all payments (made out to LSMSA Reunion) to
   Sharon Williams
   715 University Ave.
   Natchitoches, LA  71457

You may also pay via PayPal, sent to email lsmsa1989@gmail.com .  There will be an additional $2.00 fee if you do pay via PayPal to cover all fees through them.

I look forward to seeing you all in May!
