Bonjour!

So…

The LSMSA Theater Rep performed a few weeks ago, and while I miss it I’m very glad to have time for myself and homework in the evenings again. The play (if you didn’t see it) was Miracle Worker; I was cast as Annie Sullivan, which is really cool because she was one of my childhood heroes. After spending some time being up close and personal with her history I can tell you that the woman was one tough cookie and STRONG. Annie has to sling Helen around the kitchen during one scene, and I’m proud to say that I managed to avoid dropping the actress who played Helen, though I did slap her unintentionally. Oops.

I decided not to do theater spring semester, which is kind of (as in very, very) depressing, but I’ll be able to work on other things that I enjoy like singing (La!), French, chemistry, and writing. Spring semester was more relaxed than fall semester last year, so I’m hoping that I’ll have a little more free time to work on extracurricular stuff over the next few months.

Another thing that makes me excited: it’s Christmas Festival weekend in Natchitoches, and the forecast tonight is for SNOW! For those of you who are unfamiliar with the numerous festivals that occur in Natchitoches throughout the year, Christmas Festival is tied in with the city’s festival of lights; this weekend there will be the obligatory Christmas parade with street venders, the Christmas Gala (basically all of the performance departments at NSU get together and do a holiday extravaganza), and, of course, the light show and fireworks at night. The lights are set up on the riverfront across the water from Front St., and hundreds of people come every year to see them. During Festival weekend the traffic gets so bad that the schools in Natchitoches are closed (though since we walk to class we’re required to attend).

Life is going on as usual right now. Finals week begins next Thursday with dead day (the day before finals when all teachers have to be in their offices to answer questions all day), so all classes are either reviewing or finishing up whatever material they can get in before Wednesday. The year has gone by so quickly; it’s a bittersweet feeling because many of my friends are seniors and will be graduating in May. *Sniff* Next year it’ll be my turn to walk at graduation.

Anyways… Happy Holidays to everyone!

- Mollie
