WHEN IS THE ADMISSIONS DEADLINE?
We work with students in the Admissions process August through August. The earlier you apply, the better your chances of being admitted.
WHAT DOES LSMSA LOOK FOR IN APPLICANTS?
While strong scholastic achievement - as shown by a student's academic record, standardized test scores, and teacher evaluations - is important, it does not guarantee admission. Other important factors include the applicant's character, personality, motivation, extracurricular interests, and ability to live compatibly with others. The admissions committee's goal is to admit students they believe will be successful in all areas of the Louisiana School.
HOW COMPETITIVE IS THE APPLICANT POOL?
Each year, the Admissions Office receives approximately 500 applications. Individual files are read and rated by the Admissions staff as well as an External Review Committee comprised of educators from across the state.
WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION?
The Application Form, ACT or SAT test scores, and a current high school transcript are required. Once Application Part I is received in the Admissions Office, the applicant is mailed a list of essay questions . Applicants must choose one of the questions to write a brief essay for submission. LEAP scores are also required for sophomore applicants.
DOES THE LOUISIANA SCHOOL ACCEPT PLAN or PSAT SCORES?
No. ACT or SAT scores are required.
MY GUIDANCE COUNSELOR HAS TOLD ME THAT AS A SOPHOMORE, I AM NOT ELIGIBLE TO TAKE THE ACT. IS THAT TRUE?
No, anyone in any grade may register to take the ACT or SAT. If you prefer to register online for the ACT, click here, and establish your free student Web account. You may then register to take the ACT. Enter the Louisiana School's HIGH SCHOOL CODE 6351 in order for the Admissions Office to receive a copy of your test results from the American College Board.
WHAT DOES IT COST TO ATTEND LSMSA?
For Louisiana residents, tuition is free. Since tuition is covered by the state of Louisiana, students only pay fees to cover items such as room and board, computer usage, and various lab fees. The total cost for the school year is around $1,375. This price does include meals. Using federal guidelines for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program, families may apply for a reduction or waiver of the room and board fee (Fee Waiver Reduction Form).
WHEN SHOULD I APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID?
We encourage any interested student to apply and worry about the cost after notification of admission. LSMSA will find a way for students who have qualified for admission to attend, regardless of their family's financial situation. NO STUDENT HAS EVER BEEN TURNED AWAY DUE TO FINANCIAL REASONS.
IS THE LOUISIANA SCHOOL CLOSED FOR HOLIDAYS AND BREAKS?
Louisiana School observes breaks similar to a traditional school (Thanksgiving, Winter break and Spring break). During months where there is no holiday, the school dismisses once a month on a Thursday and the dorms reopen Sunday afternoon. These breaks are called Extended Weekends. During these weekends, the residence halls are closed and students must leave campus.
WHAT GRADES ARE AVAILABLE AT THE LOUISIANA SCHOOL?
LSMSA is for students in grades 10-12.
IF I AM CURRENTLY IN THE 10TH GRADE, IS IT TOO LATE FOR ME TO ATTEND?
No. The junior class is our largest group of new students. We also accept a few new seniors every year.
DO LSMSA STUDENTS WEAR UNIFORMS?
No, but there is a dress code students have to abide by.
WHAT KIND OF RULES/EXPECTATIONS ARE THERE? Please refer to the Student Handbook for a detailed account of rules governing students attending the Louisiana School. The Academic Handbook is available on this website under "Academic Life" and the Residential Handbook is available under "Student Life." As you would expect, LSMSA Students are expected to uphold both an academic Honor Code and a residential Code of Conduct.
ARE STUDENTS REQUIRED TO PURCHASE LAPTOPS?
No. All students have access to campus computer labs with Internet access located in the high school building and residence halls during the day and evening. Printers are also available. Students may bring a personal laptop or desktop computer if they prefer. Wireless is available in several areas of the campus as well as the coffee shop across the street from the High School Building.
