Dr. Charles Jones Performs Annual Piano Recital Guest Appearance - Dr. Patrick Widhalm
The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts Colloquia Series will present Dr. Charles Jones, pianist in a faculty recital on Friday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall on the campus of Northwestern State University.Admission is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.The program will include works by Mozart, Chopin, and Nazareth and will feature a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Suite No. 2 for Two Pianos with Jones and Dr. Patrick Widhalm, LSMSA’s Executive Director.
Joneshas been a member of the music faculty at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts since 1993.He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a winner in the UNC Concerto Competition and alternate winner of the NCMTA Collegiate Artist Competition.He holds the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.His teachers have included Walter Westafer, Michael Zenge, Danielle Martin, and David Renner.He also completed piano pedagogy coursework with Duke Miles, Amanda Vick Lethco, and Martha Hilley.In 1991, he won second prize at the Bartók-Kabalevsky International Piano Competition.Prior to his appointment at LSMSA, he taught piano and music theory at Limestone College in South Carolina, where he received the Fullerton Merit Award for excellence in teaching.In 1997, he recorded Bartók’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion with the Southwestern Chamber Soloists of Texas.An active member of the Louisiana Music Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association, he was a two-term LMTA President and in April will become Director of MTNA’s South Central Division and a member of MTNA’s National Board of Directors.At the MTNA National Conference in March, he will be honored as an MTNA Foundation Fellow.He holds both state and national certification as a piano teacher through LMTA and MTNA.
